Nebraska vs Oklahoma
It’s finally here…almost. The Skers and the vaunted Bofense head down to Norman to take on the Sooners. They come into the game riding a 2 game winning streak, if you can call it that after beating Baylor and Iowa State. While the Bofense has looked improved, arguably, and the Joeffense is rolling along pretty nicely, not many have real high expectations of this game. OU is putting up some pretty ridiculous numbers offensively. Luckily our strength is our defense (we’ve allowed 24.2 points and 358.8 yards per game, as well as 5.8 yards per play thus far this season. This is where the arguable improvement part comes in.)
Oklahoma does have a weakness however. It’s been no secret that their secondary has struggled the past few games. That, in addition to some key injuries, including linebacker and Van Wilder star Ryan Reynolds, have led to some big offensive numbers by opponents. They’ve allowed 35, 31, and 35 points in their last three games to Texas, Kansas, and Kansas State, respectively. So, the opportunity is clearly there for the joeffense to put up some big numbers.
The key to this game is going to be controlling the ball and keeping it away from Sam Bradford and the Oklahoma offense as much as possible. Additionally, Nebraska will have to take more shots downfield than past games this season, attacking the questionable Oklahoma secondary. This will help avoid drives stalling out, as well as open up the running game by making the Sooners respect the downfield pass.
All that said, the chances don’t look good. We’re going to need a miracle to pull off this upset. Luckily Ron Brown is on our staff again, meaning we once again have Jesus on our side. Even still, I don’t see it happening.
My Prediction: NU 24 OU 45
This ought to cheer you up and remind you of the good ole days. We might need it after this weekend. Enjoy the game.
